Something a little different for me...

It ALL started with this....

It seemed innocent enough. I was just wanting to play with colors and styles that I never buy. This is really so unlike me. But then, it got under my skin, and I couldn't stop wondering what a bigger quilt would look like.

This is what happened...

A fat eighth pack and yardage. But it didn't stop there.

I found this in my stash...

Now I did not go so big but I thought, "While I am ordering I should get a little border print for that"

Really it was a fun day at the post office on Friday!

Another pair done

Socks are done, but I did not even make a dent in the leftover wool I was trying to use up.

There is at least enough for another full pair of socks!

My Dad will have happy feet this fall!

It's still too hot for much sewing in my attic but I did go to an outdoor quilt show in Moose Jaw- Quilts in the Park. It was a lovely day to wander the trees and quilts but the wind was a little up while I was there so I didn't take many pictures. There were lots of people around though to enjoy the sunshine and the quilts!

Soon I hope to be back to appliqueing and hand quilting...if the heat goes down just a bit that is...

Little purses and socks!

They are done! And I will never, ever make them again! I am so glad I only bought 2 of each frame. It took me 2+ evenings to sew those frames in...

Here is the comparison of frames and sizes.

And a small purse full of coins...

So was it worth it? Perhaps....they are a quite cute!

It has been too hot to hand quilt and even to have my applique quilt on my lap, so I started a new pair of knitted socks for my Dad. I took all the leftover wool from the socks I have made him over the last few years and did some stripes...and it's a fast knit pair of socks!

These will keep his feet warm for the winter.

A little thing...or six...

I was finally able to get into my sewing room this morning! It has been much too hot to be in an attic room the last week...even at 6am!

I had these little note book covers all cut out and ready to sew and they were quick to put together this morning.

They are so cute!!!

I was pretty glad though to have a Teflon foot for my sewing machine. It is one of those feet that you don't need often but when you do...

This pattern had fusible web ironed to the back of several pieces and it tends to stick to your machine foot. A non-stick foot saves a lot of frustration.

This little foot saved the day!

Then I had enough time to sew my share of the blocks from a charity quilt a local group of quilters is making. It is not looking too square in this picture...it had a fan blowing it about!

Remember those little change purses that I just had to sew the frames too...well today my Dad wondered if I had gotten them done yet. Do you think he sensed my procrastination?

I don't need to be in my sewing room for that, so they are next to finish.

AAQI and other things...

It has been a busy and productive week. As I watch the Tour de France on my days off, I have been busy in my sewing room getting some UFO's finished and even started.  I suppose you could call me an unofficial member of the Tour de Fibre.

My first finish of the week...finally my Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative quilt is done and registered!

Meet 'Blueberry Pie'. It measures 8.75" x 11.50". I am quite pleased with it and hope it brings a bit of money to the AAQI!

I'll be putting it in the mail in the morning. I even had enough little hourglass blocks to make another small one for me.

Another project that has been sitting beside my sewing machine is these cute coin purses. I bought the pattern and frames while I was in New Hampshire last fall.

The sewing went quickly but attaching those frames is going to take a bit of time. My fingers are not dainty! It's a good night time sitting in front of the TV project. One thing I know for sure...I will not be making them again, even though they are really cute!

Another small project in my pile is this notebook cover.

I cut out 6 notebook covers with scraps- notice the scraps from 'Blueberry Pie'?

This is going to be a fun project!

And finally, although no picture yet, I have some blocks to make for a charity quilt that some of the quilters in my community are making. I'll have pictures of my blocks next time.
